TC3 Partners with Nonpartisan Voting Organization “ALL IN” to Bolster Student Voter Registration Ahead of 2024 Elections
Tompkins Cortland Community College, in conjunction with the State University of New York (SUNY), has joined more than 625 college presidents and chancellors in committing to full student voter registration and participation in all elections through the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
“Our TC3 community is proud to commit to full student voter participation,” said TC3 President Amy Kremenek. “We are committed to empowering our students to educate themselves, become fully engaged and exercise their civic responsibilities at all levels.” Kremenek is a signatory to the All In Higher Education Presidents’ Commitment to support student learning and participation in elections.
A committee consisting of students, staff, and faculty are convening to develop and implement an Action Plan to engage the campus community. The committee is led by Professor David Flaten, Ph.D., and Leah Tompkins, TC3 Assistant Director of Student Activities.
“We are eager to help all TC3 students actively participate in this coming election,” said Tompkins. “With hundreds of students living on-campus and thousands in our community, Panthers should know that they have power to impact elections.”
By signing the pledge, TC3 commits to providing all eligible students with the opportunity to register to vote and cast informed ballots in the general elections and beyond. Further, TC3 commits to fostering a campus culture that supports nonpartisan student civic learning, political engagement, and student voter participation.
“TC3 has a long tradition of challenging students to be engaged in their own active learning—to read, listen, reflect and take action,” said Flaten. “Modern citizens must be knowledgeable voters and have a clear understanding of their choices. Our initiative is striving to provide a comprehensive overview—from understanding the election process through to casting a ballot. We believe all voters need to comprehend the process and then actively participate in the creation of our government.”
