Several people, including current and former students, nominated Tompkins. They praised her work ethic, leadership qualities, and organizational skills, along with her willingness to help with whatever anyone needed. Her positive attitude was noted, as was the way she makes working alongside her a pleasant experience.  Specific comments praised her for bringing new and exciting ideas to her work with New Student Orientation, the Campus Voting Coalition, All In for Democracy Challenge, and the Student Government Association.
