The SUNY Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at Tompkins Cortland specializes in assisting economically and academically disadvantaged students that show promise to succeed in college. The program is designed to help the student acclimate to the college’s social and cultural environment through mentorship, financial support and academic support counseling.
As an EOP student, you’ll get proven, tailored support services to help you enroll and succeed in college, including:
- Hands-on academic and career advising, tutoring, and personal counseling to support you from enrollment through graduation
- Modest financial support to help close the gaps for things like textbooks and supplies
- A pre-freshman summer program to help you transition to college life
- A supportive, proud, and loyal community of fellow EOP students and alumni

Who is eligible for EOP?
- First-time college students who intends to enroll full-time (12 or more credits)
- Transfer students who previously attended another college and were enrolled in a similar post-secondary opportunity program (EOP/HEOP/SEEK)
- New York state residents (minimum of 12 months prior to enrollment)
- Qualify as economically disadvantaged (determined by the State established criteria for the Educational Opportunity Program)
- Academic requirements
- High School GPA of 70 – 86 (on a 100 point scale) or
- High School GPA of 1.7 - 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or
- An earned GED

Requirements of the Program
- Arrive early for an intensive pre-semester program
- Participate in all program-based meetings, workshops, activities and certifications

- Pre-semester program begins: Monday, January 13, 2025
- Move-In dates: (for students living on campus) Saturday, January 18 or Sunday, January 19, 2025
- Priority EOP application deadline: Monday, December 23, 2024
- Financial Eligibility Guidelines: Awaiting graphic for 24-25 income guidelines from SUNY
Fall 2025 EOP Dates
- Pre-semester program begins: Monday, August 4, 2025
- Move-In dates: (for students living on campus) Saturday, August 2 or Sunday, August 3, 2025
- Priority EOP application deadline: Friday, May 30, 2025
