The Empire State Services Corps will include students from Tompkins Cortland Community College this fall. TC3 has been awarded five spaces in the new statewide program that pays college students for doing community service work.

The Empire State Services Corps (ESSC) program was a proposal from New York State Governor Kathy Hochul as part of her 2024 State of the State agenda. It is a partnership with the State University of New York (SUNY) to promote paid civic and service opportunities, with about 500 service positions created across SUNY’s colleges and universities.

Students in the ESSC are eligible for up to 300 hours of paid work during the 2024-25 academic year. At TC3, students will work on campus, either at the Panther Pantry, which is an on-campus resource helping the campus community fight food insecurity, or the Recovery Space, which provides support and programming for students and faculty in recovery.

The window to apply for participation in the ESSC this fall is now open. Interested students can apply for the program at SUNY | Empire State Services Corps.
