Student Profile: Jerone Osei, '25

Jerone Osei

He realized that what he really wanted was to be more hands-on in his helping of people. He wanted to have a more direct impact on a patient’s care. He wanted to be a nurse.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, Jerone Osei worked in the field in New York City. Helping open new dental practices in the city, he was putting his education to work and helping people. But while he knew he was doing good work on the administrative side of things, he realized that what he really wanted was to be more hands-on in his helping of people. He wanted to have a more direct impact on a patient’s care. He wanted to be a nurse.

Following a friend’s recommendation, he looked to Tompkins Cortland Community College.

“It turned out to be a great fit for me,” said Osei. “I heard positive feedback from friends who graduated and spoke highly of the professors and their teaching. Their experiences reassured me that TC3 would provide a solid and supportive academic environment.”

And his experience has been similar. “The entire nursing team have been incredibly supportive, I have been given ample opportunities to prove myself and grow,” said Osei. “Their guidance has been instrumental in my development, offering valuable feedback and encouragement that have helped me refine my skills and build confidence. Beyond the classroom, the dedicated staff and advisors have provided crucial support, from navigating academic challenges to connecting me with additional resources and opportunities. Their collective commitment to my success has been a driving force in my journey, empowering me to excel and stay motivated.”

TC3’s nursing program is very demanding, testing students on many fronts. Being a student in the program can be difficult, but the shared experience tends to produce students that form a tight-knit bond. “I’ve found a balance between rigorous academic learning and collaborative engagement,” said Osei. “The challenging coursework and hands-on labs have enhanced my nursing skills, while outside the classroom, I host study groups and work with peers on projects. These activities have not only deepened my understanding but also built strong teamwork and support among us.”

His experiences at TC3 have confirmed his belief that he was right to go back to school and take on a different career.

“My long-range dreams and plans center around making a meaningful impact on others’ lives,” said Osei. “My goal is to be in a position where I can offer compassionate and effective support, always prioritizing the well-being of those I serve. TC3 represents an opportunity for me to harness my dedication and the strong foundation laid by my professors. I am committed to making the most of this opportunity and showing that my perseverance and belief in myself will lead to success.”
