Shannon Boyd has been sworn in as the new student trustee on the Tompkins Cortland Community College Board of Trustees. Boyd, who was elected by the student body, is a full-voting member of the 10-person Board of Trustees. Her term is for one year.

An adult student who lives in Cortland, Boyd is an accounting major on pace to graduate in 2025. She also serves as a peer tutor in the College’s Baker Center for Learning. “I have a passion for helping others and I want to be the student trustee to advocate for the student body to ensure their voices are heard at the highest level of decision-making,” said Boyd. “I care about this community and understand the significant role TC3 plays in providing support to a wide demographic of people. This College delivers hope and empowerment to people who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunities TC3 provides."

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the College. In addition to the student trustee, the board is comprised of representatives of both Tompkins and Cortland Counties, appointed by either the respective county legislature or the governor. The primary responsibility of the Board is to establish policies governing the College. The Board also approves the College budget and the appointment of all personnel.
