Guidelines for Faculty Partnerships

Who is eligible?

Any two teachers at Tompkins Cortland, tenure track or adjunct, may apply for a Partnership.

What is the purpose of the Partnership?

The purpose of a Faculty Partnership is to allow two teachers to explore topics related to teaching and learning, but not strictly focused on the classroom. Some examples:

  • A partnership that explored the articulation between ENGL099, ENGL100 and ENGL101, and prepared a document for use in the English department that demonstrated the progression through the course sequence.
  • A partnership that researched students’ success in the LASS program.
  • A partnership that researched the impact of teachers’ sense of themselves as writers on the success of their students as writers.

When Who What
End of second full week of classes Together Submit a detailed proposal to the CTC Coordinator that lists the areas to be covered by the partnership and the activities to be completed.
Throughout the semester Together

Meet at least once a week during the semester and keep a joint journal summarizing the conversations and progress toward the goals.

Complete activities as outlined in the proposal. Partnerships are envisioned as an exploration and a learning opportunity. Partners should not feel tied to the activities they envisioned at the beginning, if it becomes clear during the semester that a different course would better meet the goal. Such decisions should be documented in the weekly journal.

End of the eighth full week of classes Together Submit a summary of activities completed to date
Each partner Submit a reflection of a page or so to the Coordinator summarizing the Mentorship experience to date
Within ten days after the last contract day of the semester Together

Submit a summary of completed activities

Submit a copy of any product resulting from the Partnership.

Submit a copy of your weekly journal.

Talk with the Coordinator to schedule a time in the following semester to present feedback to other faculty in an appropriate venue, such as a Roundtable, faculty meeting, or College Day.

Each partner

Submit a reflection of a page or so summarizing the Mentorship experience

Submit a completed feedback form for use by the CTC Board in evaluating the program

Following semester Together Complete your presentation to faculty.

What are the requirements of the Partnership?

Partners set their own parameters for what they hope to accomplish in their Partnership. Goals should be stated clearly in a proposal, along with a description of the activities the partners anticipate carrying out to reach the goals.

How are Partners selected?

Due to the nature of Faculty Partnerships, Partners are self-selected. Potential Partners should submit a joint application to the CTC Coordinator.

How are Partners compensated?

Adjunct faculty will be paid a stipend equal to 15 times the hourly rate of their adjunct level. Tenure-track faculty will be paid 15 times the minimum hourly rate of the faculty person’s rank.

Partnerships should be completed within the semester and required paperwork submitted to the CTC Coordinator. The deadline for paperwork is ten days after the last contract day of the semester. The Coordinator will arrange for a contract to be generated. The Partners will be notified when the contract is ready to be signed. Signed contracts will be forwarded to the payroll department, and the stipend will be included in the next regular paycheck.

Personnel Folder

Upon completion of the program, the CTC Coordinator will send a statement to the Human Resources Department indicating participation in the program and the topic of the partnership.

Confidentiality

Relationships between Mentor and Mentee will be considered private and professional.  Aside from the documentation described above, no other documents or reports will be required of the participants.  Of course, voluntarily the mentor and partner may choose to discuss whatever elements of their experience they wish, provided that the choice is mutually acceptable and does not violate the confidentiality rights of other individuals.
