Body
The minimum eligibility criteria for federal financial aid require a student to:
- Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen
- Have a valid social security number
- Have a valid high school diploma or its equivalency
- Be registered with Selective Service, if male (required for all males between the ages of 18 and 25)
- Matriculate at Tompkins Cortland and enroll for a minimum of six credit hours
Students should submit their applications for admission and financial aid at the same time.

Minimum eligibility criteria for New York State aid require a student to:
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen (excludes World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship, Flight 587 and 3407 Memorial Scholarships)
- Be a legal resident of New York State (excludes World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship, Flight 587 and 3407 Memorial Scholarships)
- Have a valid high school diploma, GED or another New York State Education Department recognized high school equivalency
- Enroll as a full-time student taking 12 or more credits per semester
- Matriculate in an approved program of study at Tompkins Cortland
- Not be in default on any federal student loan or on any repayment of a New York State award
- Meet income eligibility limitations
For the 2024-2025 FAFSA, 2022 tax and income information is required.
- Apply for a Federal Student Aid ID
- Your FSA ID serves as your electronic signature.
- You will need a FSA ID to apply for financial aid and to complete documents required for specific aid programs. Parents of dependent students will also need a FSA ID.
- Complete the FAFSA
- If you plan to attend Tompkins Cortland Community College in Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025, complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA.
- The FASFA is required to determine your eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Direct Student Loans, work study, and Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) programs.
- Complete your NYS TAP Application
- New York State residents who expect to be enrolled full-time should also complete the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application. Your FAFSA must be completed before a TAP application can be filed.
- You can link directly to the TAP application from the confirmation page of your FAFSA. Simply select the link that says "Start your application now".
- Students and Parents: You will need your NYS ID or Drivers License to complete the application!
- If you do not complete your TAP application from the link on your FAFSA confirmation page, then you must wait 3-4 business days after filing your FAFSA for New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) to receive the information from your FAFSA. Once HESC has received your FAFSA information, you can file your TAP application online.
