New Student Orientation and Welcome Week
For all new and transfer students

Fall 2017 New Student Orientation will take place August 20-22, 2017. Welcome Week activities continue through August 31, 2017.

Sunday, August 20 is Move-in day for new students living on campus.

Monday, August 21 is New Student Orientation for all new, transfer, and reinstated students (commuters, adults, and residents).

Tuesday, August 22 New Student Orientation events are for new students living on campus.

Fall 2017 courses begin on Wednesday, August 23. The Academic Calendar contains important dates for the semester, including deadlines.

Parents, spouses and other sponsors

In addition to activities for students there are programs for parents, spouses and other sponsors.

New Student Orientation Schedule

Orientation information and a schedule of events will be mailed in early August to all new students who have already attended START (Student Testing, Advising, Registration, and Transition). Students attending START later in August will receive orientation information at their START session.

Please note that the schedule below is tentative and all students will receive a final schedule with detailed information including session locations at Orientation Check-in.

New Resident Students living on campus will move in to the Residence Halls on Sunday, August 20 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be required floor meetings to attend on Sunday evening. Resident students also have required new student orientation activities to attend on Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22.

Orientation Check-In will take place on Monday, August 21 from 9:30-9:45 a.m. in the Atrium of the Athletic Facility on the Tompkins Cortland main campus in Dryden.

Many College offices have extended open hours during Orientation and Welcome Week so that you can take care of everything you need prior to the start of classes.

The following schedule is subject to change. Students will receive the final orientation schedule when they check in on Monday, August 21. Attendance at events marked with * required for new students living in the Tompkins Cortland residence halls.

Our CommUNITY – This session will introduce the College’s community value of diversity. The session will provide students active opportunities to better understand the strengths each of us brings to our community, and how these strengths and unique characteristics impact how we see, experience, and participate in the world around us.

Tompkins Cortland FYI and Safety on Campus – Get in the know! This session informs new students about important College academic and student conduct policies. You'll learn about our community standards, student rights and responsibilities, and more. Becoming an informed and engaged member of our campus is essential to keeping our living and learning community a safe and supportive one for all students.

Start STRONG – College success depends on you! In this session you’ll learn how understanding your strengths, getting involved, and developing leadership skills are all key to making the most of your college experience.
