Tompkins Cortland's Vision for a Sustainable College

Sustainability at Tompkins Cortland

Sustainability - meeting the needs of the present without sacrificing the needs of the future.

At the College, we will strive to create a culture of sustainability to ensure that we have minimal negative environmental impact on our campus and our community. As a College, we will incorporate sustainability into our overall decision making regarding:

  • purchasing of goods and services
  • purchasing and production of energy
  • construction of new buildings
  • curriculum design and implementation
  • collaborative efforts in the community

In addition to the specific goals outlined in the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, we will implement sustainability initiatives that are suitable for and capitalize on the unique characteristics of Tompkins Cortland. These combined efforts will lead to a College and community that is viable and thriving for generations to come.

Sustainability Council

Comprised of representatives from faculty, staff and students, the Sustainability Council supports the vision and goals with planning and action.
